- The most common location for knee pain is the lower inner knee.

Knee pain
The knee joint is located between the tibia and the femur. The knee joint is made up of three separate joints, which enable extension and flexion movements as well as slight rotation. The joint is supported by the joint capsule, the patella, and strong lateral and cruciate ligaments. There are also two menisci on the surface of the tibia, which act as shock absorbers, distribute load evenly, and ensure stability.

- Pain may be felt in different parts of the knee joint and patella, deep inside the knee, and/or radiate to the area around the knee and downwards.

Causes of prolonged symptoms
Prolonged symptoms are usually caused by a combination of several factors rather than just one of the factors listed below.
- Physiological strain due to previous injuries, premature wear, or functional disorders, especially in the lower back, hip flexor muscles, hip, knee, ankle, and foot areas on the same side.
- Congenital predisposition to faster than age-related wear and tear in the joints.
- Structural abnormalities in the hip, knee, ankle, or foot.
- Insufficient or excessive physical strain.
- Lifestyle factors, such as overly repetitive and insufficient exercise, inadequate or poor-quality sleep.
- Local or central nervous system sensitization of the pain system.
